Shona Strathie Sladyk
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland
Live and work in Johnson, VT
I grew up in Edinburgh then went to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee where I studied Drawing and Painting, earning a Diploma then a Post-Diploma. On graduation I was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshield Travelling Scholarship which took me to New York where I studied at the Art Students League for a year. Life intervened and I put painting aside for 30 years. I moved to Vermont where I raised my two daughters and started painting again 10 years ago. After working full-time for many years I made the decision to go part-time thus giving myself more time to paint which I do when my three dogs are not demanding to go on an adventure. I also own a house with my sister in West Wemyss in Fife, Scotland which I try to visit as often as possible. Much of my inspiration for landscapes comes from winter in VT with the stark design of bare trees against snow and dramatic skies, and the east coast of Scotland with its fishing villages and rugged shores. Portrait painting has always been my primary interest and I look forward to being commissioned to portray you or a family member.
